  • You must be available on site during the specified dates.
  • This is a volunteer position, but certain expenses, such as food and accommodation, are covered by the FSF.
  • You must be fluent in english.
  • By participating in this event, you hereby consent to the use of your image in photographs, video recordings, and other media taken during the event for the purposes of promoting and communicating about the event. This may include use in press releases, promotional materials, and other publications associated with the event.
  • You may apply to more than one position, but will be appointed to only one position.

Become a Scrutineer – Experienced in FS highly desirable

As a scrutineer, you will assess the compliance of student racing vehicles with the technical rules of the competition. Your role involves conducting detailed inspections of various mechanical/electrical aspects of the cars, ensuring safety and fairness in the competition.

Mechanical scrutineering

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough vehicle inspections to ensure compliance with competition rules.
  • Assess mechanical systems of the vehicles including chassis, powertrain, suspension, and safety systems.
  • Work closely with student teams to explain the inspection outcomes and provide technical advice.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of inspection standards and procedures.
  • Participate in briefing and debriefing meetings with the organizing team and other judges.

Required Qualifications:

  • Significant experience or education in mechanical engineering, preferably in the automotive sector.
  • A deep understanding of mechanical principles and automotive safety is required.
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Previous experience in Formula Student competitions or automotive racing events.

Electrical scrutineering

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed inspections of the electrical systems of vehicles participating in the competition.
  • Ensure vehicle compliance with safety standards and technical regulations specified by Formula Student.
  • Collaborate closely with teams to troubleshoot technical issues and guide them on best practices in electrical safety.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and decision-making for vehicle approval to compete.
  • Document inspections and prepare detailed reports on findings.
  • Participate in technical committee briefing and debriefing meetings.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education in electrical or electronic engineering, or a related field.
  • Practical experience in designing or inspecting electrical systems, preferably in the automotive sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical safety standards and technical regulations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both written and verbally.
  • Teamwork skills and ability to manage situations under pressure.
  • Previous experience in Formula Student competitions or automotive racing events.

Autonomous Scrutineering

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth inspections of the autonomous systems in vehicles to ensure compliance with competition rules and safety standards.
  • Evaluate software, sensors, and hardware components related to autonomous driving systems (e.g., perception, localization, and control).
  • Verify the integration and functionality of autonomous technologies, including safety mechanisms for manual overrides.
  • Work closely with student teams to explain inspection outcomes and provide guidance on improving their systems.
  • Actively participate in briefing and debriefing meetings with the organizing team and other judges.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of inspection protocols and standards related to autonomous technologies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education or significant experience in fields related to autonomous systems, robotics, or computer science.
  • Familiarity with autonomous vehicle technologies, including sensors (e.g., LiDAR, cameras), software stacks, and communication protocols.
  • Understanding of safety standards and technical regulations specific to autonomous systems.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Teamwork and ability to remain composed under pressure during inspections and technical evaluations.
  • Previous experience with Formula Student competitions or autonomous driving projects is highly desirable.

Hydrogen Scrutineering

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed inspections of hydrogen systems in participating vehicles to ensure compliance with competition rules and safety standards.
  • Evaluate the design, installation, and operation of hydrogen storage systems, fuel cells, and related components.
  • Verify safety mechanisms, including pressure relief systems, leak detection, and emergency shutdown procedures.
  • Collaborate with student teams to explain inspection results and provide guidance on improving the safety and efficiency of their hydrogen systems.
  • Participate in briefing and debriefing meetings with the organizing team and other scrutineers.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of inspection protocols and standards for hydrogen technologies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education or experience in fields related to hydrogen technologies, chemical engineering, or energy systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of hydrogen storage, fuel cell systems, and associated safety standards.
  • Familiarity with technical regulations for hydrogen-powered vehicles, including high-pressure systems and gas safety.
  • Analytical skills and ability to identify and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Previous experience with Formula Student competitions or hydrogen energy projects is highly desirable.
